2,4,6,8, We are class 1 we are great!
Welcome to class 1 where you will meet lots of new friends and faces. In year 1 we are taught by Mrs Carrington and Mrs. Glover with Mrs. Hallam and Mrs Roe – it may seem a lot but we’ve a lot to do. Alongside all the reading, writing, number, art, music and spelling work we do we also have special events each day to look forward to.
On Mondays we go swimming and by the end of the year almost everyone can swim without armbands. If we’re not swimming we’re learning about famous artists and their work. On Tuesdays we do super science and learn all about ourselves and other animals and plants. On Wednesdays we have PE and Character Education where we learn skills to help us to be the best that we can be. On Thursdays afternoons we go outdoors to learn, whatever the weather, we call this ‘Green Thumb Thursday.’ On Friday’s we develop a love of music, listening to, singing and composing a range of genres and we have a ‘star’ assembly to celebrate our achievements.
All year long we get ready for a phonic check in June where we can show off our great knowledge of letters and sounds. We even learn to read and speak ‘alien’. With the help of our mums and dads, grannies and grandpas, aunties and uncles, big brothers and sisters we are expected to read at home every evening, learn our spellings each week and complete a piece of homework in our own homework books ready to help us in class the next week.
But the best bit of year 1 is that it gets us ready for a life of learning, a love of books and knowledge and a belief that we should always try to be the best that we can be.
